Field Day is ham radio's open house. Every June, more than
40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary
transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham
radio's science, skill and service to our communities and
our nation. It combines public service, emergency
preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all
in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since
1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio. Field Day is always the
fourth full weekend of June, beginning at 1800 UTC (1 PM) Saturday, and running through 2059 UTC Sunday. It is on days such as this that new Hams are most easily recruited. It is a time that they may see actual communications in practice and they may have an opportunity to get some "hands-on" time. Radios, antennas, coax and other such equipment are always needed and appreciated. Additionally please remember that there is always a need for assistance with assembly and take-down of this equipment. Rickwood Caverns State Park, just of I-65 near Warrior, AL, is the location for the 2026 W4BLT Field Day exercise, beginning at 1 PM Saturday, and running through 1 PM Sunday. Lunch will be provided on Saturday afternoon. Breakfast on Sunday morning and any left over lunch. All are welcome! |
