Due to the threat of heavy rain continuing through the
weekend, we are going to cancel the BCARC Winter Field Day
event. The event had been scheduled for this Saturday,
January 27. Winter Field Day is an outdoor event intended to demonstrate our emergency operating preparedness during winter conditions. This means operating off the grid with limited use of existing infrastructure in potentially freezing conditions. As a club, we are prepared for emergency operation, but heavy rain, snow, and/or extreme temperatures pose serious risks to equipment and individual health. It would not be prudent to risk equipment damage or our member's health for a practice session. Remember that it is still possible to participate in Winter Field Day from the comfort of your home using your personal call sign. The event will be on the air from 1:00pm this Saturday until 1:00pm Sunday (local time). Operation will be on the non-warc amateur bands to include 80m, 40m, 20m, and 10m. Your exchange during a contact will be your call sign, class, category, and location identifier. For most of us this would be as follows. Call sign, 1H, AL.
